Cookies
The After·Service uses one cookie. That's it.
The cookie we set
| Name | Purpose | Type | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|---|
NEXT_LOCALE | Remembers your chosen language (en, es, th, …) so the site loads in your preferred language on return visits | Strictly functional | 1 year |
That's the entire cookie footprint of this site.
Why no consent banner
Under GDPR Article 6 and the ePrivacy Directive, strictly necessary cookies — those required for basic site functionality the user has explicitly asked for — don't require consent. The language cookie qualifies: it stores nothing more than the language you chose.
If we ever add cookies that do require consent, a banner will appear here at that moment. We have no plans to.
What we don't use
- No tracking cookies
- No advertising cookies
- No third-party analytics cookies (our analytics is cookieless — see Privacy Policy)
- No social media tracking pixels (Facebook, X, TikTok, LinkedIn, Pinterest, etc.)
- No retargeting tags
- No fingerprinting
Third-party cookies
Two places where third-party services may set their own cookies — neither is set by us, and both are out of our control:
- Beehiiv subscribe form (when active): the form is an iframe loaded from
embeds.beehiiv.com. Beehiiv may set cookies inside that iframe for newsletter operations and consent. Beehiiv handles its own consent flow inside the iframe; see the Beehiiv Privacy Policy. - Google Maps: when you click "Open in Maps" on any venue, you leave The After·Service for
maps.google.com. Google's cookies and privacy policy apply once you're there. We don't track that click.
The map view itself uses OpenFreeMap for tiles, which sets no cookies.
How to disable cookies
Cookies are controlled by your browser. To disable the language cookie:
- Chrome / Edge: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data
- Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data
- Firefox: Preferences → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
- Brave: Settings → Shields → Cookies
Disabling the cookie won't break anything — the site will simply default to English on every visit instead of remembering your choice.
Changes to this policy
We'll update this page if we ever add a cookie. Currently, we have no plans to.
