Terms of Service

These terms govern your use of The After·Service. By reading the publication you agree to them. They're written to be plain-English; nothing here is designed to surprise you.

What this is

The After·Service is a monthly editorial publication by Manu Palacio. It is a personal opinion piece — one operator's working list of restaurants in Bangkok (with future cities planned). It is not a guide, a directory, or a ranking. It's editorial.

What we don't do

• We don't accept payment, sponsorship, or comped meals from any venue listed. Manu pays at every table on the list. That's the central editorial rule of the publication.
• We have no commercial relationship with the venues — no affiliate fees, no booking commissions, no sponsorship deals, no advertising.
• We don't include Cento or Quilombo (the author's own restaurants) in any editorial list. They appear only on the About page, explicitly disclosed as a conflict of interest.
• We don't sell your data, run advertising, or partner with affiliate programs.

Editorial nature

The recommendations are personal opinion, formed at the author's own expense. They reflect a moment in time — a venue's quality, hours, menu, or existence may have changed since publication. They are not professional advice — culinary, dietary, medical, financial, allergen-related, or otherwise. Use your own judgment, and confirm important details (allergies, accessibility, opening hours, reservations) with the venue directly.

What you may do

• Read the publication freely.
• Share links to issues or to individual venue pages, including the dynamic share-card images we generate for each venue.
• Quote brief excerpts (up to a few sentences) with attribution and a link back.
• Subscribe to the newsletter (free).

What you may not do

• Scrape, mirror, or republish the editorial content (letters, essays, occasion blurbs, neighborhood intros, Manu's Order notes, share-card design) without prior written permission.
• Use automated tools — including AI training crawlers — to ingest the publication's content for commercial datasets, model training, or aggregation, without prior written permission.
• Use the editorial content for commercial purposes (reselling, repackaging into a guide or app, including in paid newsletters) without prior written permission.
• Imply any endorsement, sponsorship, or affiliation with the publication or its author without prior written permission.
• Misrepresent the publication's editorial position — e.g. presenting a venue as "recommended by The After·Service" outside the actual editorial context.

Intellectual property

All editorial content — letters, essays, occasion taglines and bodies, neighborhood intros, Manu's Order notes, the publication's design and typography choices, the share-card design — is the intellectual property of The After·Service and Manu Palacio.

Venue names, addresses, and basic factual information are not (those belong to the world).

Disclaimers

• The publication is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied.
• We make no guarantee that any venue is open, accurate, suitable for any purpose, safe, accessible, or willing to seat you. Always check directly.
• We are not responsible for your experience at any venue listed — service quality, food safety, allergens, accessibility, weather, mood, scheduling, or any other factor that affects a meal.
• Links to third-party sites (Beehiiv, Google Maps, restaurant websites, hotel pages) are provided for convenience only. We are not responsible for those sites' content, terms, accuracy, or data practices.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, The After·Service and Manu Palacio are not liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special, exemplary, or punitive damages arising from or related to your use of the publication, your reliance on its contents, your visits to any venue listed, or any third-party services linked from the publication.

If a court of competent jurisdiction finds this limitation unenforceable, total liability is capped at $50 USD or the equivalent in your local currency.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms over time as the publication evolves or as laws change. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent change. Continued use of the publication after changes are posted means you accept them.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Thailand, without regard to its conflict-of-laws provisions. Any dispute arising from or related to the publication will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Bangkok.

Severability

If any provision of these terms is held to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full effect.
