Privacy Policy
The After·Service (the "publication") is a monthly editorial publication written by Manu Palacio. This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, why, and what we do with it. It's deliberately short — we collect very little.
Who we are
The After·Service is published by Manu Palacio, based in Bangkok, Thailand. For privacy questions, write to hello@theafterservice.com.
What we collect

We do not collect names, profile data, cross-site tracking data, behavioral profiles, or information from minors. The publication is not directed at children under 13.
Why we collect it
- To deliver the newsletter to your inbox (only if you subscribed).
- To understand which issues, occasions, and venues are read most.
- To remember your language preference between visits.
We do not sell, rent, or share data with advertisers. There is no advertising on this site.
How long we keep it
- Email: until you unsubscribe (one-click in any newsletter footer).
- Analytics: aggregated and anonymized on collection; raw event data retained for ~12 months, then discarded.
- Server logs (Vercel): ~30 days.
Subprocessors
The publication uses the following third-party services. Each handles your data under their own privacy terms:
- Beehiiv — newsletter delivery and subscriber list
- Vercel — hosting and CDN
- Supabase — database for the publication's editorial content
- OpenStreetMap / OpenFreeMap — map tiles when the map view loads
- Google Maps — when you click "Open in Maps", you leave our site for theirs; we don't track that click
When the analytics provider is finalized (Plausible or Umami), we'll add their privacy policy here. Both are cookieless and GDPR-compliant by design.
Your rights
If you're in the EU, UK, California, Brazil, Switzerland, or any other jurisdiction with personal data laws, you have the right to:
- Access — request a copy of what we hold about you
- Correction — fix anything wrong
- Deletion — ask us to remove it
- Portability — get a copy in a structured, machine-readable format
- Restriction or objection — opt out of analytics or unsubscribe from the newsletter

For newsletter unsubscribe specifically: every issue has a one-click unsubscribe link in the footer.
International data transfers
The publication is based in Thailand. Data may be processed in jurisdictions outside your own — typically the EU (Vercel, Supabase have EU regions), the US (Beehiiv), or Singapore (Supabase regional database) depending on the subprocessor. All subprocessors above use Standard Contractual Clauses or equivalent safeguards for international transfers.
Cookies
We use one cookie: NEXT_LOCALE, which stores your chosen language code (en, es, th, etc.) and nothing else. It's strictly functional — no consent is required under GDPR for this kind of cookie.
We use no tracking cookies. Our analytics is cookieless.
The Beehiiv subscribe form (when active) is an iframe; Beehiiv may set its own cookies inside that iframe. Beehiiv handles its own consent flow.

Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data — TLS for all connections, Row Level Security on the database, no client-side access to administrative credentials. No system is perfectly secure, but we treat your data with care.
Changes to this policy
We may update this page when we change how data is handled or when laws change. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent change. Material changes will be announced in a newsletter issue.
